At Emergency Services Ireland (ESI), we're proud to stand alongside the Irish Red Cross, an organisation that has been providing life changing support and humanitarian aid for decades. Their mission is simple yet powerful - to help people in crisis, both here in Ireland and around the world

We proudly collaborate with key organisations including the Irish Red Cross Charity and many more to highlight the vital role of our emergency services and the importance of supporting those who serve.

Here are some of the key activities they lead locally:
First Aid & Rescue Services: Providing medical cover at public events (sporting events, concerts), delivering ambulance and first-aid services, and operating specialised mountain and lake rescue teams.
Community Support & Social Services: Assisting older people, transporting people to hospital appointments, offering services such as skin-camouflage and hand-care therapy, and supporting those who are isolated.
Emergency & Disaster Response (Domestic): When storms, floods or other severe weather events occur in Ireland, the Irish Red Cross steps in with welfare hubs, door-to-door checks of vulnerable people, and delivery of relief packs (water, hygiene items, blankets etc.). Example: during Storm Éowyn they helped coordinate national response efforts.
Migration & Refugee Support: They run programmes helping refugees and forced migrants settle into Ireland — offering accommodation pledges, case-worker supports, integration assistance (healthcare, education, employment).
Youth Programmes & Education: Engaging younger people (aged 4-25) in humanitarian education, first-aid training, and youth-volunteering-activities.
Their global work is equally impactful: They deploy or fund relief in multiple countries each year. According to their 2023 annual report, they provided life-saving relief and support in 13 countries, including Ukraine, Gaza, Nepal, India, Sudan, Syria, Libya and more.
They respond when disasters strike: such as earthquakes, floods, conflict zones — supplying shelter, medical support, clean water and psychosocial care.
They promote and uphold International Humanitarian Law, protection of civilians in conflict, and work in longer-term recovery and resilience building.
Working alongside the Irish Red Cross means: We align with an organisation that has deep roots in local communities and a strong national infrastructure.
We contribute to real, measurable impact — from event-first aid coverage to aiding vulnerable communities, to stepping in when major emergencies hit.
Our support helps amplify both local and global humanitarian efforts — helping meet immediate needs and support long-term resilience.
We stand with values of impartiality, neutrality and humanity, which underpin the Irish Red Cross’s work.
