Gardaí Launch Road Safety Campaign Ahead of Winter Weather
An Garda Síochána has launched a comprehensive road safety campaign to reduce accidents during hazardous winter driving conditions. The campaign focuses on driver awareness, vehicle preparation, and enforcement of road safety laws.
Winter Driving Safety
The campaign emphasizes the importance of adjusting driving behavior during winter months. Key messages include allowing extra travel time, maintaining safe following distances, and being prepared for rapidly changing road conditions.
Gardaí are advising motorists to ensure vehicles are winter-ready, including checking tire tread depth and pressure, ensuring all lights are working, and keeping windscreen washer fluid topped up with antifreeze.
"Winter conditions require extra caution. We're urging all road users to slow down, plan ahead, and never take unnecessary risks in poor weather."
— Assistant Commissioner, Roads Policing
Increased Checkpoints
As part of the campaign, Gardaí will be conducting increased roadside checkpoints throughout the winter period. Officers will be checking for proper tire conditions, vehicle roadworthiness, and driver impairment from alcohol or drugs.
Partnership Approach
The campaign is being run in partnership with the Road Safety Authority, local authorities, and motoring organizations. A public awareness campaign will run across television, radio, and social media throughout the winter months.
