Fire and emergency services in Ireland and Northern Ireland have secured over €2 million in EU PEACEPLUS funding for a major cross-border fire and rescue training project aimed at strengthening interoperability and disaster preparedness.
This initiative, known as the TACTICS Project (Training Across Communities for Tactical Interoperability for Cross-Border Safety), will establish a central training hub and deliver advanced exercises in urban search and rescue, high volume pumping, joint response simulations and multi-agency coordination — benefiting fire crews and emergency personnel on both sides of the border.
The project is expected to enhance cooperation, readiness and shared best practices for firefighters, rescue specialists and community safety teams throughout the region. This cross-border collaboration will ensure that emergency services on both sides of the border can work seamlessly together during major incidents and disasters.
Key Training Areas
This significant investment in training infrastructure and cross-border cooperation represents a major step forward in emergency preparedness for the region, ensuring that fire and rescue services are better equipped to respond to complex emergencies that may require coordinated cross-border responses.
