Air Ambulance Service Marks 10 Years of Life-Saving Missions
The Irish Community Air Ambulance celebrates a decade of service, having responded to over 3,500 life-threatening emergencies across Ireland. The charity-funded helicopter service has become a vital part of Ireland's emergency response infrastructure.
A Decade of Service
Since its first flight in 2016, the Irish Community Air Ambulance has transformed pre-hospital emergency care in Ireland. Operating from its base in Rathcool, County Cork, the helicopter can reach any location in the southern half of Ireland within 20 minutes.
The service responds to the most serious emergencies including cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions, farming accidents, and medical emergencies where time is critical. The aircraft is staffed by a doctor and critical care paramedic, bringing hospital-level care directly to patients.
"Every mission we fly represents a life we're fighting to save. After ten years and thousands of missions, we're proud of the difference we've made to communities across Ireland."
— CEO, Irish Community Air Ambulance
Community Support
The Irish Community Air Ambulance is primarily funded by public donations, costing approximately €2 million annually to operate. Communities across Ireland have rallied to support the service through fundraising events, regular donations, and legacy gifts.
Looking Forward
As it enters its second decade, the service is exploring expansion to provide coverage to additional areas. Plans include extending operational hours and investigating the feasibility of additional aircraft to serve communities throughout Ireland.
